Taxable sales (before HST) in each of the last four calendar quarters.
The $30,000 small-supplier rule
You're a small supplier — and don't have to register — while your worldwide taxable sales (with associated businesses) stay at or under $30,000 in a single calendar quarter and over the last four consecutive calendar quarters.
Go over in a single quarter and you must start charging HST on the sale that pushed you over. Go over across four quarters and you have until the end of the month after that quarter before you must charge it. Registering early is allowed — and can pay off if you buy expensive equipment or sell mainly to businesses that claim the HST back.
