The single most useful thing you can do after hiring an accountant takes about five minutes: authorize them as your representative with the Canada Revenue Agency.
Why it matters
- We see your slips — T4s, T5s, RRSP receipts — directly from the CRA, so nothing gets missed.
- We see your RRSP room and carry-forwards, so your planning uses real numbers.
- We can answer CRA letters and speak to the CRA for you, instead of you waiting on hold.
- Problems get fixed faster — reassessments, missing slips, benefit questions.
How to authorize us (individuals)
- Sign in to CRA My Account.
- Go to your profile and find the section for authorized representatives.
- Choose to add a representative and enter the identifier we give you (our business number or RepID).
- Pick the level of access — we'll tell you which one we need — and the tax years.
- Submit. Then let us know, and we'll confirm on our side.
We'll send you our identifier and the exact access level when you sign on. Never share your own CRA password — authorization is the secure way to give access.
For businesses
Business owners authorize representatives through My Business Account or Represent a Client, for the specific program accounts — payroll, GST/HST or corporate income tax — you want us to manage.
Can I remove access later?
Yes. You can cancel or change a representative's access at any time from your CRA account.
